Yet another wool industry cruel secret exposed at international wool textile congress

Superfine wool auction today in Hobart, Australia will be targeted to expose the plight of intensively housed (shedded) sheep which are deliberately half-starved, isolated and locked up by some producers of low micron wool.

Animal rights activists will be outside the Grand Chancellor Hotel in Hobart, Australia, today to present video and photographic evidence which demonstrates the suffering of sheep who are kept permanently "shedded".

International buyers of superfine wool will see the ugly truth of this growing aspect of the superfine wool industry. The Animal Liberation NSW mobile van will show vision of what is behind these closed doors.

"This intensive farming of sheep, which results in them leading such miserable lives, is a disturbing trend in the wool industry which is already suffering such bad publicity due to the cruelties of mulesing and the live export industry. We are determined to nip this new and deplorable way of sheep farming in the bud." said Against Animal Cruelty Tasmania Coordinator, Suzanne Cass.

Mark Pearson, Executive Director Animal Liberation NSW states:
"There is absolutely no excuse for this treatment of sheep in Australia. It is totally based on greed, nothing else. Many producers of low micron wool use genetics and do not permanently shed or undernourish their animals. This significant, growing part of the industry must be immediately abolished. We will not relent until it is."
