Animal Liberation campaigns in the news recently
Dear [NAME],
Two of Animal Liberation’s campaigns received national newspaper coverage a week ago. They provided the public with news of abuses of animals in pig dogging and puppy farms that is too often kept out of the public eye. We’ve attached links to the articles below in case you missed them, as well as some more information about the issues, and some government and news contacts you can make to assist these animals. Please also consider making a donation to help us continue our work on these and other vital campaigns to improve the lives of animals.

Pig Dogging
Pig doggers say that “pig” dogs are used to coral “feral” pigs – the truth is that dogs are set upon pigs with ferocity because that’s what they’ve been trained to do. Dogs are released from captivity from cages and can cover a large distance in a very short time. These animals have been blooded and are rewarded for “bringing down” a pig. It is not uncommon for up to three dogs to be hanging off pig’s faces and ears, biting and ripping at them for the one or two hours it may take the hunter to get to them. In turn it could be the dogs who are ripped apart by the tusks of terrified pigs. “Pig dogs” often wear neck and chest protectors that still leave the greater part of their body exposed to attack. Hunters use knives (pig sticking) to kill pigs and the killing can be sadistic and protracted as witnessed on dozens and dozens of YouTube videos. This is a blood sport – and must be banned immediately.
Please politely contact the Minister and ask that he immediately commence a ban on pig dogging; his Department is responsible for and funds the Game Council NSW.

Puppy Farms

Australia has one of the highest rates of pet ownership in the world, and also one of the highest killing rates in our pounds and shelters. Two factors which greatly contribute to pet overpopulation in Australia are the practices of puppy farming, and the sale of animals through pet shops. Puppy farms are large scale breeding operations in which animals are kept in horrific conditions, with little to no veterinary care, socialisation, or love. Stress, boredom, deprivation and loneliness are probably the words that best describe the life of a dog in a puppy farm. Conditions don't improve much when these animals are shipped to pet shops around Australia, as animals living in glass boxes in pet store windows will suffer in very similar ways to how they did at the puppy farm.
Please contact the editor at the Sun Herald, Simon Dulhunty, and thank him for running the story, and please encourage the Sun Herald to continue to run stories that expose the horrors of puppy farming and pet shop practices:
