End the Cruel Sport of Wild Goat Racing

Petition to End the Cruel ‘Sport’ of Wild Goat Racing.

Over the last few years Animal Liberation has worked to expose the brutality found at wild goat racing events across NSW. Wild goats, totally unused to human contact, are captured, auctioned, teased and tormented, dragged across a raceway and harnessed to a cart. Children as young as 4 years old are encouraged to be 'jockeys'. The goats and children are released, and chaos occurs. Goats react to the foreign situation with a fear based response. Children are thrown off carts; frightened goats collapse onto the ground or run into the crowd. Goats crash head first into fences, some goats bleeding, some goats knocking themselves unconscious.

Channel Seven’s Today Tonight has worked with Animal Liberation to expose this cruelty airing three stories on the cruelty found at these events. From this, combined with meetings with rural police, 2 of the 4 goat racing events have been permanently cancelled. However, other events are still being organised across NSW.

We are calling for a ban of all wild goat racing events across NSW.

Please download our petition to the N.S.W. Legislative Assembly calling for this ban (download PDF peitition 49.00 Kb). Petitions are also available at the office.

We also have petitions to ban the bloody “sport” of pig dogging, to introduce mandatory CCTV for all slaughterhouses, to ban the “battery” cage, ban live export, and to abolish the Game Council and recreational hunting.
